Maintenance Protocol for Regular Turbines After each patient it is important to run cleaner through the drive line before sterilization and re-lubricate after sterilization. Pre-Sterilization: 1. Clean external surfaces of the handpiece by wiping with a damp toothbrush or paper towel. Do not run under water. Wipe dry after cleaning. 2. Insert bur into chuck. 3. Clean handpiece internally as follows:
4. Sterilize handpiece according to manufacturer's instruction. Important Note: Do not autoclave any highspeed handpiece with a bur in the chuck, as this can crack the center of the turbine, destroying it.
Post-Sterilization: 1. Allow sterilized handpiece to cool gradually, about 30 minutes, to room temperature. 2. Ascertain that bur is secure in chuck (never run the handpiece without a bur in it) 3. Apply 2 drops of lubricant into drive air line. 4. Operate handpiece for 30 seconds above paper towel to expel excess lubricant from the turbine. 5. Wipe external surfaces. 6. Handpiece is ready for use.
